Your Voice

The term "the grey army" conjures up visions of vast organised marching people of a certain age. Whilst it may sometimes have an unfair connotation, there is no doubt that older people form a huge part of society and with our years of experience it is vital for the whole of society that our voices be heard. So, here is your chance to have your say. Join our discussion point, put your point of view across. Do you need to take something further but don't know where to go - Just ask and we'll take it up.

Post Office Closures - Sense or Offence??

Do you agree with what's happening to local Post Offices??

Scores of Post Offices including Stafford's main post office are to close and their services transferred to WH Smith. Customers, MPs and local councillors across the country have come out strongly against the closures, as post offices are currently used by more than 4 million people to draw their pensions and benefits.

They argue that local post offices play a vital role in the community and that shutting them down will result in:
  • Problems for the elderly and disabled and for anyone with restricted mobility, such as mothers with young children, who may experience difficulty traveling to branches further away.   Currently it is estimated that approximately 4 million people draw their pensions and benefits from post offices.
  • Longer queues, poorer services and facilities , with the increased pressure that the closures will put on nearby branches
  • Worse local delivery services
  • A loss of local community
  • Damaging repercussions for local shops and businesses

However not everyone agrees that closing Post Offices is a bad thing

  • Most of the services offered by the Post Office can for example be done on line or by direct debits
  • If you have no computer there are some free to use at the library and stamps are in most stores now.

What's your point of view??

Do you agree or disagree with what's happening?
